    The Santigold

As you know, for one month I’ve cut out dried pineapple. (Two weeks in and the shakes and spontaneous drooling has finally ceased.) But this bitch never said anything about fresh pineapple—what what! That’s right. Bring it. But laziness has done me a favor for once since fresh pineapple’s annoying to cut I actually haven’t had any whatsoever since I dropped the dried. But my cravings are finally crushing my laziness and I need pineapple in any one of its forms. Since I have two more weeks to go before I get crack dried pineapple back, this week’s cocktail is all about the freshy fresh. Booyow.

With no good segue, this year I decided to grow a little veggie garden. I’m pretty obsessed with basil, so approximately 75% of my garden consists of basil. So yeah basically, it’s a basil garden with some token peppers and cucumbers.

Topic number three (thanks for staying with me here, booze to come shortly, promise), I’m really digging this newish artist Santigold. If you haven’t listened to her album, Santogold, you really must get on it. Her sound is hip hop meets the Yeah Yeah Yeahs meets M.I.A meets Laurie Anderson. She puts the bad in ass.

So I’m crushin’ on Santigold, lovin' on pineapple and basil, so naturally we have to put all this delish together and have a party.

    Ingredients:
-2 oz of vodka of your choice. You can use rum if you prefer, but rum makes me stupid(er).
-a few big chunks of fresh pineapple (I know, it’s a pain in the ass, but fresh is so much better than canned)
-3 good-sized basil leaves, torn into pieces
-approx. one oz of simple syrup (equal parts sugar to hot water—the sugar will dissolve, then you have simple syrup)
    -half a lime
    -club soda

Muddle the pineapple with the basil. Add the simple syrup and the juice from the lime. Add ice and vodka, then shake. Finally, add the club soda. Now sip your Santigold while listening to Santogold, and all your dreams will come true. I’m just sure of it.

NOTE: Please, DO NOT call this a mojito. Mojitos are evil in its purest form. (We shall discuss this later…)

So I'm far to lazy to mix liquids any further than whisky and Coke, so even though this pineapple thingamagig sounds awesome, I'm downing the third drink (I'm always curious to know if the people behind the bar have preconceived ideas about people who order certain drinks.... If it makes any difference at all, when I'm not at home, I order whichever beer is on tap or a vodka and lime. I'm not fancy). I think my point is that I would love to try to your pineapple thingie, I'm far too lazy to make it myself and would only ever pay to have it made.

Oh, and my point is I youtubed Santogold and my new current favourite song is Lights Out. I love your recommendations - Drinking Out of Cups and now Santogold. Love. Thanks.

New addiction to add: Santogold. Thank you! As if my OCD addictive personality needed anything else. :) It's good to have new music though, it keeps me alive!

Almost like a Caipiriihinia (spelling) right...just without the vodka and sub in the cacacha? Kinda.

I had a Caipirihina bar for a clubnight I did and we had all kinds of versions. One of my faves was a strawberry and basil one. And then one of my bartenders tried your pineapple basil concotion. EFFING delish.

    MMMM..
